DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 36 (Plastics Manufacture and Processing) Studies of the effects of pigments on the photooxidn. of low-d. polyethylene [9002-88-4] indicated that pigments that cause photosensitization of the polymer, i.e. Cadmium Yellow, promoted photooxidn.; the enhancing effect was verified by the fast buildup of carbonyl groups and loss of elongation and the irradiated film. The predominance of chain fission over chain crosslinking was reflected in curves representing gel formation. A benzotriazole-type UV absorber, Tinuvin 328 [25973-55-1] was also unsatisfactory as a stabilizer when used in the presence of the CdS pigment. Photodegrdn. was delayed in aging of films contg. Chrome Orange, Copper Phthalocyanine Green [1328-53-6], and Ultramarine Blue [57455-37-5].
