Thus, 1,3,6-HOC10H5(SO3H)2 [578-85-8] was coupled with 4-HO3SOCH2CH2SO2C6H4N+2 in the presence of excess CaCO3 at pH 6.8 to give orange dye I (R = R2 = H, R1 = R3 = SO3H) [65542-11-2]. The red dye I (R = MeO, R1 = R3 = H, R2 = SO3H) [65542-12-3] was also prepd.
