DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacodynamics) The diuretic activity of 2H-1,2,4-benzothiadiazine-3-carboxylic acid 1,1-dioxide (I) [57864-78-5] and 22 of its derivs. 59794-85-3 and 57864-93-4 are cas registry numbers of chemicals which are used as reagents here. (with different radicals in the 3 position) was tested on rats. Removal of the CO3H group abolished activity. Derivs. with amide, alkylamide, hydrazide, or heterocyclic hydrazides in position 3 had low activity, while arylamides and acyl amides of sulfonic acids had high activity. Substituents on the arom. group of the arylamides influenced activity, e.g. Me, MeO, sulfamide, Br, and Cl groups increased activity. A few of the most active compds. exceeded hypothiazide in diuretic activity. .
