DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 5 (Agrochemicals) Section cross-reference(s): 25 The phthalanilates I (R = Pr or iso-Pr; X = halogen, F3C, or lower alkyl; n = 1 or 2) are herbicides. I are prepd. by treating phthalic acid ester chloride with anilines in the presence of a base. For example, Pr 2',6'-diethylphthalanilate (II) [62377-22-4] was synthesized by treating phthalic acid mono-Pr ester chloride [62377-17-7] with 2,6-diethylaniline [579-66-8] in the presence of Et3N. II sprayed at 50 g/are controlled broadleaf weeds 90-99% within 20 days.Except for chemicals metioned above, 62377-26-8 and 62377-19-9 are also used. .

- Effects of soils on degradation of the herbicide alachlor under light. Fang, Chin-Hsiang (Dep. Chem., Prov. Kaohsiung Teach. Coll., Kaohsiung, Taiwan). Chung-Kuo Nung Yeh Hua Hsueh Hui Chih, 15(3-4), 53-9 (English) 1977. CODEN: CKNHAA. ISSN: 0578-1736. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 5 (Agrochemicals) The effects of environment conditions on the photodecompn. of alachlor (I) [15972-60-8] by sunlight were investigated with glass surfaces (control) and 3 soil types. I was not degraded in the dark. Exposure of I to sunlight for 8 h caused the degrdn. of the herbicide. Degrdn. was greater on glass surfaces than in soils. The residues of I after irradn. under sunlight were 41.0% of the applied I on glass surfaces, 67.5% in the silty clay loam soil, 54.1% in the sandy loam soil, and 59.4% in the silty loam soil. Degrdn. increased by increasing soil moiture content. The amts. of residues after irradn. were dependend upon the org. matter and moisture contents of the soils. Higher org. matter and lower moisture content produced higher amts. of residues. With sunlight, 2-chloro-2',6'-diethylacetanilide [6967-29-9], 2,6-diethylaniline [579-66-8], 2',6'-diethylacetanilide [16665-89-7], monochloroacetic acid [79-11-8], 2',6'-diethyl-N-(methoxymethyl)aniline [39180-88-6], and 1-chloroacetyl-2,3-dihydro-7-ethylindole [54941-18-3] were detected in the soils under the exptl. conditions.
