Combined effect of psychodepressant drugs and propanolol on cardiovascular components of the emotional-stress response
Combined effect of psychodepressant drugs and propanolol on cardiovascular components of the emotional-stress response. Beshimov, A.; Radev, R.; Martynikhin, A. V. (USSR). Psikhofarmakol. Emotsional'nogo Stressa Zoosotsial'nogo Vzaimodeistviya, 71-3. Edited by: Val'dman, A. V. Pervyi Leningr. Med. Inst.: Leningrad, USSR. (Russian) 1975. CODEN: 36BYAQ. DOCUMENT TYPE: Conference CA Section: 1 (Pharmacodynamics) Chlordiazepoxide [58-25-3] was more effective than leponex [5786-21-0] and tempidone [29334-13-2] in reducing the hypertension occurring in cats under emotional stress during a confrontation with a dog. However, even in high doses (3-4 mg/kg) chlordiazepoxide did not abolish the tachycardia accompanying the stress. Propranolol [525-66-6], given at 1.6 mg/kg i.p. along with chlordiazepoxide, removed the tachycardia and improved the tranquilizing effect. Propranolol had similar effects with respect to the action of leponex and tempidone on the animals. Therefore, it is recommended that propranolol be given along with tranquilizers in situations of emotional stress to guard against irregularities in cardiac rhythm and to improve the tranquilizing effect.
Effect of tranquilizers on the emotional-behavioral and cardiovascular response due to psycogenic stress
Effect of tranquilizers on the emotional-behavioral and cardiovascular response due to psycogenic stress. Kozlovskaya, M. M.; Beshimov, A. (USSR). Psikhofarmakol. Emotsional'nogo Stressa Zoosotsial'nogo Vzaimodeistviya, 63-70. Edited by: Val'dman, A. V. Pervyi Leningr. Med. Inst.: Leningrad, USSR. (Russian) 1975. CODEN: 36BYAQ. DOCUMENT TYPE: Conference CA Section: 1 (Pharmacodynamics) Chlordiazepoxide [58-25-3] (2-2.5 mg/kg) or diazepam [439-14-5] (0.0-0.5 mg/kg) diminished or inhibited completely the emotional reaction and its accompanying rise in arterial pressure shown by cats during precontact, contact, and postcontact with dogs. Oxazepam [604-75-1] at 1-1.2 mg/kg decreased by .ltoreq.50 % the pressor reaction during the contact and postcontact period. It completely eliminated emotional arousal during the postcontact period although some hypertension and tachycardia remained. Nitrazepam [146-22-5] at 0.8-1 mg/kg decreased anxiety and motor activity during contact, and at 1.5-3 mg/kg made the animal drowsy and inattentive when the dog appeared. However, at 4-7 mg/kg the cats were more active and the blood pressure rose. Lorazepam [846-49-1] was the most effective compd. for decreasing blood pressure and the emotional reaction, but even in high doses (0.15-0.25 mg/kg) it failed to completely remove the hypertension.
