DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 50 (Propellants and Explosives) BzOK [582-25-2] is one of the ingredients in the formulation of SR 136 Whistling Compn., but some ambiguity exists in the chem. literature as to its compn. This investigation established that BzOK ppts. from aq. alc. and crystallizes from water as colorless plates, it does not contain water of crystn., and it does not appear to take up water from its environment. Its DSC trace over the temp. range 310 to 730 K consists of a single endotherm occurring near 714 K, which is probably due to melting, the heat of fusion being ~213 J/g. It can be prepd. from stoichiometric amts. of BzOH and either KOH or KHCO3.Except for chemicals metioned above, 1310-58-3 and 65-85-0 are also used. .

The accuracy of the method for each inhibitor was ±5% in hydraulic fluids contg. NaOH 0.1, I 0.2, KOBz [582-25-2] 2.0, NaNO2 0.1, and Na2B4O7 [1330-43-4] 1%.
