Water-in-oil emulsions having improved low temperature properties
Water-in-oil emulsions having improved low temperature properties. Rance, Robert W. (Dow Chemical Rheinwerk G.m.b.H., USA). U.S. US 4506051 A 19 Mar 1985, 9 pp. (English). (United States of America). CODEN: USXXAM. CLASS: ICM: C08K005-20. NCL: 524233000. APPLICATION: US 83-530794 9 Sep 1983. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 37 (Plastics Manufacture and Processing) The low-temp. properties, i.e., the freeze-thaw stability and/or the fluidity at low temps. (-20°), of a self-inverting, water-in-oil emulsion of a water-sol. polymer are improved by incorporating an N,N-dialkylamide in the emulsion. Thus, a water-in-oil emulsion of water-sol. acrylamide-acrylic acid copolymer (I) [9003-06-9] was prepd., comprising 23% of a continuous oil phase of Isopar M (a mixt. of isoparaffinic hydrocarbons having a flash point of 77°) contg. the oil-sol. The discontinuous aq. phase of this emulsion contained ~40% I. To the emulsion was added 4% (based on emulsion wt.) of a mixt. contg. equal parts of an inverting surfactant (1 mol octylphenol condensed with 16 mols ethylene oxide) and an N,N-dialkylamide compn. contg. N,N-dimethylcaprylamide [1118-92-9] 50, N,N-dimethylcapramide [14433-76-2] 40, N,N-dimethylcaproamide [5830-30-8] 5, and N,N-dimethyllauramide [3007-53-2] 5%. The emulsion maintained its fluidity with no gel formation after 3 freeze-thaw cycles (each cycle comprised 22 h at -20°, followed by 2 h at room temp.). The emulsion could be inverted in a synthetic sea water contg. an addnl. 3% KCl.

Horstmann, Heinz Otto; Priesnitz, Uwe; Engelhardt, Ulrich; Reizlein, Karl; Wangermann, Klaus (Bayer A.-G., Germany). Eur. Pat. Appl. EP 453899 A1 30 Oct 1991, 22 pp. DESIGNATED STATES: R: BE, CH, DE, DK, ES, FR, GB, IT, LI, NL, SE. (European Patent Organization). 139444-86-3 and 5830-30-8 are cas registry numbers. These chemicals are also mentioned in this article. CODEN: EPXXDW. CLASS: ICM: A01N043-653. ICS: A01N055-00; A01N025-02. APPLICATION: EP 91-105830 12 Apr 1991. PRIORITY: DE 90-4013522 27 Apr 1990. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 5 (Agrochemical Bioregulators) The dimethylamides RCONMe2 (R = C5-19-alkyl) inhibit crystn. of fungicidal azole derivs. (Markush given) in an aq. spray formulation. 1-(4-Chlorophenyl)-4,4-dimethyl-3-(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl-methyl)pentan-3-ol 25.4, di-Me amide mixt. ( 5% hexanoic acid di-Me amide, 50% octanoic acid di-Me amide, 40% decanoic acid di-Me amide, and 5% dodecanoic acid di-Me amide) 49.1, alkylarylpolyglycol ether emulsifier 20.0, N-methylpyrrolidone 5.0, and water 0.5 wt.% were formulated as a conc. which was dild. to 0.5 wt.% spray, in which no crystn. was obsd. .
