- Photochemical alkylation of inorganic arsenic
- Photochemical alkylation of inorganic arsenic. Part 1. Identification of volatile arsenic species. Guo, Xuming; Sturgeon, Ralph E.; Mester, Zoltan; Gardner, Graeme J. ( Institute for National Measurement Standards, National Research Council Canada, Ottawa, ON K1A 0R9, Can.). Journal of Analytical Atomic Spectrometry, 20(8), 702-708 (English) 2005 Royal Society of Chemistry. CODEN: JASPE2. ISSN: 0267-9477. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 80 (Organic Analytical Chemistry) Section cross-reference(s): 29 Volatile arsenic species generated by UV irradn. of aq. solns. of arsenite in low mol. wt. (LMW) carboxylic acid media (formic, acetic, propionic and butyric) were identified using ICP-TOF-MS and GC-MS. Cryogenic trapping-GC-MS reveals that inorg. 5852-57-3 is the cas registry number. This chemical is also mentioned in this article. arsenite can be alkylated to yield AsH3 in the presence of formic acid, trimethylarsine in acetic acid, triethylarsine in propionic acid and tripropylarsine in butyric acid solns. Mixed ligand arsenic species such as methylarsine, dimethylarsine, dimethylethylarsine and diethylmethylarsine are also formed when a mixt. of acids was used. Using 0.05 mg L-1 As(III) as the test soln. in 3.1M acetic acid, a methylation efficiency of ~75% was achieved. .
