- Electronic and resonance Raman spectra of one-dimensional mixed-valence platinum-ethylamine complexes at ca. 80 K. Clark, Robin J. H.; Turtle, Philip C. (Christopher Ingold Lab., Univ. Coll. London, London, Engl.). Inorg. Chem., 17(9), 2526-31 (English) 1978. CODEN: INOCAJ. ISSN: 0020-1669.In this study,58559-78-7 is also used. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 73 (Spectra by Absorption, Emission, Reflection, or Magnetic Resonance, and Other Optical Properties) The resonance Raman spectra of the mixed-valence complexes [Pt(etn)4][Pt(etn)4X2]X4.4H2O, where X = Cl or Br, and [Pt(etn)4][Pt(etn)4X2]X4, where X = Br or I and etn = ethylamine, were recorded at ca. 80 K. The spectra are characterized by the appearance of intense progressions v1n1 and nn + n1n1, where n1 is the sym. X-PtIV-X stretching mode. The v1n1 progression reaches at most to v1 = 16, while the subsidiary progressions are rather shorter and less intense; these data permit various spectroscopic consts. to be calcd. The nature of the obsd. progressions is discussed in terms of distortions of the structures of the complexes in the excited state, the principal geometric change being an increase in the platinum(IV)-halogen bond length. The relation between the max. of the excitation profiles of the n1 band and those of the resonant mixed-valence bands is also outlined. .
