DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 11 (Plant Biochemistry) Stem bark of both sexes of S. japonica japonica contained taraxerone, taraxerol, b-sitosterol, umbelliferone, scopoletin, bergapten, imperatorin, isoimperatorin, (+)-oxypeucedanin, (+)-oxypeucedanin hydrate, (+)-saxalin, and phellopterin. Xanthotoxin was present only in male plants, and (-)-heraclenol only in females. C8-prenylated coumarins, including osthol, osthenol, (-)-meranzin, (-)-meranzin hydrate, (+)-auraptenol, and isomeranzin, were found in the male plants. The alkaloid skimmianine was found only in male plants, but its precursor (dictamnine) was restricted to females. .
