DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 5 (Agrochemical Bioregulators) Toosendanin [58812-37-6] isolated from Melia toosendan is a strong antifeedant against several insect pests. In this article, certain chemicals are used. One of their cas registry numbers is 58812-37-6 Its effect on the chemoreceptive sensilla of the maxillary palpus and maxillary lobe of armyworm M. separata larvae was investigated by means of electrophysiol. technique. Glass capillaries filled with the stimulating chem. in known concns. were employed as the stimulatory-recording electrodes, which were in contact with the tips of sensilla of the larvae in the sixth instar. The responses to sucrose or inositol in high frequencies of spikes were recorded. After a filter paper block impregnated with toosendanin soln. (5 ′ 10-5 g/mL) was brought into contact with the sensilla, the spikes diminished markedly. The response to sucrose or inositol would gradually recover but would diminish again after a contact with toosendanin for a second time. When the concn. of toosendanin was increased, the response of the sensilla to sucrose or inositol was irreversibly inhibited. .
