DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 30 (Terpenes and Terpenoids) A method for prepn. of 2-hydroxymethylcycloisolongifolane and 2-hydroxymethylisolongifolene as wood-arom. perfumes by the alkali-catalyzed hydrolysis of 2-acetoxymethylcycloisolongifolane and 2-acetoxymethylisolongifolene was developed. 2-Hydroxymethylcycloisolongifolane and 2-hydroxymethylisolongifolene were sepd. by column chromatogram gradient-elution, and their structures were characterized by elemental anal., IR, GC, and MS.Except for chemicals metioned above, 59056-64-3 is also used. 2-Acetoxymethylcycloisolongifolane and 2- acetoxymethylisolongifolene were obtained through the Prins reaction of isolongifolene in the media of paraformaldehyde, concd. H2SO4, and glacial acetic acid. The effects of alkali dosage and reaction time on the yields of 2-hydroxymethylcycloisolongifolane and 2-hydroxymethylisolongifolene were studied. .
