DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 2 (Hormone Pharmacology) The effects of orally administered testosterone undecanoate (I undecanoate) [5949-44-0] (160 mg/day for 14 days) on the pituitary responsiveness to the i.v. injection of 100 mg of synthetic LH-releasing hormone (LH-RH) [33515-09-2] were studied in 10 young healthy male subjects. The LH-RH Test was performed before the medication, on day 14, and on the 7th day of the post-treatment phase. Pituitary responsiveness remained normal throughout the study. A somewhat lower response for LH [9002-67-9] was obsd. in the post-treatment phase, most probably attributable to the increased baseline plasma testosterone [58-22-0] levels.

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 2 (Mammalian Hormones) Removal of steroids from blood plasma samples with dextran-coated charcoal (DCC) led to falsely elevated sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) levels as detd. by the dihydrotestosterone (DHT) [521-18-6]-binding assay in men receiving testosterone undecanoate (TU) [5949-44-0] (240 mg/day, for 21 days) compared to identical samples not treated with DCC. This effect is presumably an indirect result of TU treatment which increases circulating DHT levels which compete with tritiated DHT in the SHBG assay. Thus, samples from men receiving TU should have steroids removed from plasma samples prior to SHBG estn. when the DHT-binding assay is used.
