DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 56 (Nonferrous Metals and Alloys) Au and Au alloy coatings are stripped from Cu substrates by using an aq. soln. contg. (1) ring-substituted nitrobenzoic acid compd. (2) sol. cyanide (3) Pb or Bi compd. (4) organo mercapto compd. The latter is added to inhibit substrate attack. Thus, a Au-plated Cu substrate was immersed in a soln. contg. p-nitrobenzoic acid [62-23-7] 12, K 2-chloro-4-nitrobenzoate [59639-91-7] 5, KOH 20, Pb chloride 0.4, KCN 15, and 2-mercaptobenzothiazole [149-30-4] 1 g/L at 43-45° and pH 13-13. 62-23-7 is also in the experiment.5. The stripping rate of Au was 1.2-1.4 m/min, and no attack of the Cu substrate was detected after 30 min in the soln. .
