Homopolymerization of N-(pentachlorophenyl)maleimide and N-(2,4,6-tribromophenyl)maleimide
Homopolymerization of N-(pentachlorophenyl)maleimide and N-(2,4,6-tribromophenyl)maleimide. Bouchal, Karel; Ryska, Miroslav; Hrabak, Frantisek (Inst. Macromol. Chem., Czech. Acad. Sci., Prague, Czech.). Makromol. Chem., 178(1), 55-68 (German) 1977. CODEN: MACEAK. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 35 (Synthetic High Polymers) Radical polymn. of N-(pentachlorophenyl)maleimide (I) [61133-91-3] and N-(2,4,6-tribromophenyl)maleimide (II) [59789-51-4], prepd. by reaction of the appropriate aniline deriv. with maleic anhydride [108-31-6], gave oligomers with d.p. 1-4 and 1-3 for I and II, resp. The polymn. mechanism of I and II is discussed on the basis of the structure of the oligomers sepd. by gel chromatog. and identified by mass spectra. Elution vols. of the individual oligomers were a linear function of log Mn.
The Diels-Alder reaction and copolymerization of halogenated N-phenylmaleimides with dienes
The Diels-Alder reaction and copolymerization of halogenated N-phenylmaleimides with dienes. Lokaj, Jan; Pivcova, Hana; Hrabak, Frantisek (Inst. Macromol. Chem., Czech. Acad. Sci., Prague 162 06, Czech.). Angew. Makromol. Chem., 144, 207-18 (English) 1986. CODEN: ANMCBO. ISSN: 0003-3146. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 35 (Chemistry of Synthetic High Polymers) The course of the Diels-Alder reaction of N-(2,4,6-tribromophenyl)maleimide (I) [59789-51-4] with 2-methyl-1,3-butadiene (II) [78-79-5] and N-(2,4,6-trichlorophenyl)maleimide (III) [13167-25-4] with II, 2-chloro-1,3-butadiene (IV) [126-99-8], and butadiene (V) [106-99-0] in CHCl3 was investigated. For the I-II addn., the reaction order was detd. with respect to both components, and the activation energy was calcd. The Diels-Alder adducts thus obtained were characterized by elementary anal., by 1H- and 13C-NMR spectra, sp. vol. contractions, m.ps., solubilities, and polymn. abilities. Copolymers of I and III with II, IV, V, and 2-methylpropene [115-11-7] were prepd., and their compn. In this experiment, several chemicals are used like 106-99-0 and 126-99-8 was detd. The copolymn. and Diels-Alder addn. of I-II and III-II occurring in parallel were investigated, and the participation of these two processes in the total reaction was discussed. .
