DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 4 (Toxicology) The dose-response relations for mutation to streptomycin nondependence in Escherichia coli Sd-4 were studied for 3 chem. agents (ethylene oxide [75-21-8], Me methanesulfonate [66-27-3], and Et methanesulfonate [62-50-0]) with large scale expts., and for 10 agents (propylene oxide [75-56-9], 1,2-butene oxide [106-88-7], glycidol [556-52-5], epichlorohydrin [106-89-8], chloroethylene oxide [7763-77-1], chloroacetone [78-95-5], bromoacetone [598-31-2], chloroacetaldehyde [107-20-0], glycolaldehyde [141-46-8], and glyceraldehyde [367-47-5]) with normal scale expts. The data for ethylene oxide could be fitted to a single straight line. The mutation curves for Me and Et methanesulfonates were resolved into 2 components. The dose-response relation were indicated to be linear for 6 out of the remaining 10 agents tested. Marked contributions from the quadratic components were reflected in the curves obtained with chloroethylene oxide, chloroacetaldehyde, chloroacetone, and bromoacteone.
