Some interrelations of neutrophil chemotaxis, lysosomal enzyme secretion, and phagocytosis as revealed by synthetic peptides
Some interrelations of neutrophil chemotaxis, lysosomal enzyme secretion, and phagocytosis as revealed by synthetic peptides. Becker, Elmer L. (Health Cent., Univ. Connecticut, Farmington, Conn., USA). Am. J. Pathol. In this article, certain chemicals are used. Some of their cas registry numbers are 20312-65-6 and 59881-08-2 , 85(2), 385-94 (English) 1976. CODEN: AJPAA4. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacodynamics) Section cross-reference(s): 13 Some synthetic mono-, di-, and tripeptides, such as F-Met-Leu-Phe [59880-97-6], stimulated random neutrophil locomotion, chemotaxis, lysosomal enzyme secretion, and phagocytosis in vitro. There was a correlation between the ability of peptides to enhance neutrophil movement and the ability to induce lysosomal secretion, however greater amts. were required for the latter. The relation of structure to these activities was extremely specific, and very small changes in structure could make large changes in activity. For example, the presence of a formyl group on the methionine of a group of tripeptides lead to a 3000-30,000-fold increase in activity. The activity of a given peptide depended not only on the constituent amino acids but also on the precise position in the peptide chain. .
