Thus, a mixt. contg. trimethylolpropane triacrylate [15625-89-5] 70, ketone resin (Hilak 111) 30, and p-benzoquinone 0.5 parts was heated at 115° to form a homogeneous coating mixt. with viscosity 300 cP (25°). This coating mixt. was mixed (60 parts) with Japanese acid clay 50, dipenterythritol pentaacrylate [60506-81-2] 10, N,N-4-dimethylaminobenzophenone 5, and benzophenone 5 parts and kneaded in a 3-roll mill to give a color-developing printing ink. Paper contg. 6 g/m2 microcapsules of a color-forming oil comprising 2.5 parts crystal violet lactone and 2.0 parts benzoyl-leuco-methylene glue in 4 parts diisopropylbiphenyl and 1 part kerosine was printed in a relief printing machine with 5.0 g/m2 above prepd. ink and exposed to a 2-kW UV lamp 5 cm from the printed surface to give a haze-free color on the paper, whereas a hazy color was formed on the paper when a color-developing printing ink contg. Japanese acid clay, nitrocellulose, EtOAc, BuOAc, and EtOH was used.

The materials are esp. useful for coating polypropylene [9003-07-0] moldings and films. Thus, a coating material contg. dipentaerythritol pentaacrylate [60506-81-2] 75, Darocur 1173 [7473-98-5] (photosensitizer) 3.0, and a polyfunctional acrylate obtained from Olester NP-1000 (hexamethyene diisocyanate-H2O adduct) and hydroxypropyl acrylate 29.9 parts were applied to a Noblen BJHH-M molding and UV-irradiated to give a cured film showing excellent adhesion, hardness, and weatherability.
