Polybrominated anisoles in marine fish, shellfish, and sediments in Japan
Polybrominated anisoles in marine fish, shellfish, and sediments in Japan. Watanabe, Isao; Kashimoto, Takashi; Tatsukawa, Ryo (Osaka Prefect. Inst. Public Health, Osaka 537, Japan). Arch. Environ. 1825-26-9 and 100-66-3 are also occured in this study. Contam. Toxicol., 12(6), 615-19 (English) 1983. CODEN: AECTCV. ISSN: 0090-4341. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 4 (Toxicology) The concns. of polybrominated anisoles (2,4-dibromoanisole [21702-84-1], 2,4,6-tribromoanisole (I) [607-99-8] and pentabromoanisole [1825-26-9]) were detd. in marine fish, shellfish, and sediments collected in Japan. I was found in 14 of 24 fish and shellfish samples, with a range of 0.1-5.4 mg/kg (ppb) on a wet wt. basis. The concns. of I were similar to pentachloroanisole and hexachlorobenzene, but ~100th of PCBs. The correlation between I and PCBs levels in fish and shellfish samples was significant. 2,4-Dibromoanisole was found in 4 fish samples, with a range of 0.6-1.3 ppb. However, pentabromoanisole was not found in any samples of fish and shellfish. No polybrominated anisoled were detected in the sediment samples. .
2,4,6-Tribromoanisole: a Potential Cause of Mustiness in Packaged Food
2,4,6-Tribromoanisole: a Potential Cause of Mustiness in Packaged Food. Whitfield, Frank B.; Hill, Jodie L.; Shaw, Kevin J. (Sydney Laboratory, CSIRO Division of Food Science and Technology, North Ryde NSW 2113, Australia). Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 45(3), 889-893 (English) 1997 American Chemical Society. CODEN: JAFCAU. ISSN: 0021-8561. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 17 (Food and Feed Chemistry) Strains of the ubiquitous xerophilic fungus Paecilomyces varioti can quant. In this article, certain chemicals are used. Some of their cas registry numbers are 607-99-8 and 118-79-6 convert the fungicide 2,4,6-tribromophenol to its musty-smelling metabolite, 2,4,6-tribromoanisole. Conversion was complete at the end of 6 wk. A trained sensory panel found the odor threshold concns. of 2,4,6-tribromoanisole to be 2 ′ 10-5 mg/L in water and 2 ′ 10-3 mg/kg in sultanas. Studies also showed that 2,4,6-tribromoanisole could produce a musty taint in sultanas packaged in polyethylene pouches after only 1 wk of storage in the presence of fiberboard that contained 300 ng of this compd.; the taint was produced at both 22 and 30 °C. An anal. method based on multiple-ion detection GC-MS was used for the measurement of 2,4,6-tribromoanisole in packaging materials and food. .
