- Zinc alkaline batteries. Yokoyama, Kenichi; Kirihara, Sonae (Hitachi Maxell, Ltd., Japan). Japan. Kokai JP 51096029 23 Aug 1976 Showa, 4 pp. (Japanese). (Japan). CODEN: JKXXAF. CLASS: IC: H01M006-04. APPLICATION: JP 75-22028 20 Feb 1975. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 52 (Electrochemical, Radiational, and Thermal Energy Technology) The battery consists of a Zn anode, a KOH electrolyte contg. a cyanohydrin and a thiazole deriv., and a cathode. The Zn soln. and gas evolution are prevented, and the battery has a high energy d. Thus, a MnO2-graphite dry-cell battery was prepd. with a KOH electrolyte contg. mandelonitrile [532-28-5], 2-aminothiazole sulfate (I) [61169-63-9], and an anode paste contg. Zn and Na polyacrylate. The battery was stored 6 months at 45.degree. and discharged with a 4 .OMEGA. load, and the discharge time to 0.9 V was 9 vs. 8 hr for a conventional cell. In static test, the gas evolution and Zn soln. in an electrolyte contg. I and mandelonitrile were 4 ml and 21 mg vs. 20 ml and 80 mg, resp. in an electrolyte contg. I.Except for chemicals metioned above, 61169-63-9 and 532-28-5 are also used. .
