DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 64 (Pharmaceutical Analysis) The prepn. and electrochem. characterization of a carbon paste electrode modified with N,N'-ethylenebis(salicylideneiminato)oxovanadium(IV) complex ([VO(Salen)]) as well as its behavior as electrocatalyst toward the oxidn. of dipyrone were investigated. The electrochem. behavior of the modified electrode and the electrooxidn.In this article, certain chemicals are used. Some of their cas registry numbers are 6150-97-6 and 36913-44-7 of dipyrone were explored using cyclic voltammetry. The voltammetric response of the modified electrode is based on 2 reactions. One electrochem. related to the oxidn. of the metallic center of the [VO(Salen)] and the other involving the chem. redox process involving the oxidized form of the complex and the reduced form of dipyrone. The best voltammetric response was obsd. for a paste compn. of 25% (m/m) [VO(Salen)], KCl soln. pH from 5.5 to 8.0 as the electrolyte and potential scan rate of 10 mV s-1 in the presence of dipyrone. A linear voltammetric response for dipyrone was obtained in the concn. range from 9.9 ′ 10-6 to 2.8 ′ 10-3 mol L-1, with a detection limit of 7.2 ′ 10-6 mol L-1. Among of several compds. tested as potential interference, only ascorbic acid presented some interference. The proposed electrode is useful for the quality control and routine anal. of dipyrone in pharmaceutical formulations. .

The electrode presented low cost and easy construction by simple mixing of graphite powder and mineral oil. Initially, an electrochem. study of the dipyrone oxidn. at a C paste electrode was developed before its use in the FIA system. The oxidn. currents monitored at +0.35 V vs. Ag/AgCl, were proportional to the dipyrone concns. Exptl. parameters, such as nature of supporting electrolyte, pH of the carrier soln., flow rate, sample vol. injection and probable interferents were studied. Under the best exptl. conditions selected, the calibration curve for dipyrone was linear in the concn. range from 4.91 ′ 10-6 to 2.50 ′ 10-4 mol L-1 (Ianodic/mA) = 0.056 + 81.06 [dipyrone] with a detection limit of 2.07 ′ 10-6 mol L-1. Recoveries ranged from 93.8 to 100.8% and an anal. frequency of 130 h-1 was achieved. The proposed flow procedure was satisfactorily applied to the detn. of dipyrone in several pharmaceutical formulations. .
