Thus, a mixt. of dimethyl itaconate [617-52-7] 395, polyethylene glycol octyl ether [27252-75-1] 790, p-toluenesulfonic acid 5.9, and hydroquinone 0.6 part was heated 5 h at 140-50.degree. to give an ester which (3 part) was mixed with 10 parts urethane polymer and 12 parts curing agents. The whole mixt. was heated 1 h and molded to give an antistatic elastomer sheet.

The mixt. was cooled to 85° and 31.6 g dimethyl itaconate [617-52-7] and 5.3 g (iso-PrO)4Ti were added. The mixt. was refluxed for 2 h to give polyethylene glycol monostearyl ether itaconate (2:1) (I). A monomer emulsion was prepd. by mixing Et acrylate 118, methacrylic acid 94.4, I 23.6, 28% Na lauryl sulfate (II) [151-21-3] 6.3, and water 271 g. A mixt. of 5% above monomer emulsion and 20.3 g 1.25% (NH4)2S2O8 was added to a reactor contg. 6.3 g II in 206 g water. The remaining monomer emulsion and 28.7 g 0.37% (NH4)2S2O8 soln. was added over 1 h. The mixt. was heated at 86° for 15 min and 10.3 g 0.9% (NH4)2S2O8 soln. was added to give a copolymer [92140-60-8] dispersion thickener.
