Increasing dichromate oxidizability values indicated the presence of org. and inorg. matter. Chromatograms were sprinkled with a 1% soln. of p-(dimethylamino)benzaldehyde in mixt. with ether and H2SO4 (4:1). I and AcPh gave orange spots, II gave a yellow spot and PhMe2COOH [80-15-9] a pink spot. The Rf values were: I 0.26; PhMe2COOH 0.37; AcPh 0.54; II 0.79. .
