N-Amyl alc. [71-41-0] and 0.01 tribenzylamine (I) [620-40-6] soln. in the same alc. were used as liq. membranes. The feed soln. was 4M H3PO4 with metal concn. of 10 g/L. The transport of Fe and Ni ions from the catholyte to the anolyte with and without current and using thiooxine (II) [491-33-8] and 5-bromothiooxine (III) [3989-31-9] is discussed. The membrane of n-amyl alcs. did not transport Fe ions. The introduction of I into the membrane leads to the transport of Fe, while the current increases the transport, which is related to the formation in the H3PO4 soln. of complexes such as [Fe(PO4)3]6-. The presence in the membrane of the complexing agents II and esp. III suppresses the transport of Fe ions. The presence of II and III in the membrane leads to an increase in the transport of Ni ions both in the absence of current and in a const. elec. field. The highest transport takes place for membranes contg. III, which is related to the difference of the stability consts. of the inner complexes of the reagents with Ni ions.
