DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 23 (Aliphatic Compounds) Section cross-reference(s): 24 Olefins were converted to esters by treating the olefins with carboxylic acids in the presence of a catalyst comprising the reaction product of Sn halide with a carboxylic acid. Thus, EtCO2H was heated with SnCl4 at 85-140.degree. for 6 h and the resultant EtCO2SnCl3 was used as a catalyst for the reaction of EtCO2H with 7-tetradecene at elevated temp. and pressure to give a product contg. tetradecyl propionate and tetradecyl chloride; the ratio of ester to chloride from this reaction was higher than from the reaction catalyzed by SnCl4 alone. Four more esters including cyclohexyl propionate were similarly prepd. .
