DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 27 (Heterocyclic Compounds (One Hetero Atom)) Ketones and aldehydes R1COCH2R2 [R1 = 4-MeC6H4, 4-MeOC6H4, 3-pyridyl, R2 = H; R1 = Et, R2 = Me; R1 = H, R2 = Ph; R1 = Ph, R2 = MeO; R1R2 = (CH2)4, o-C6H4CH2CH2] with an active methylene group condensed easily with glyoxal monohydrazones OCHCH:NR3Me (R3 = Me, Ph) to give 42-95% R1COCR2:CHCH:NNR3Me (9 compds.). 62506-76-7 and 96-22-0 which are cas registry numbers of substances are two of reagents here. These were hydrogenated to give 70-87% pyrrolines I (R1 = 4-MeC6H4, 4-MeOC6H4, 3-pyridyl, R2 = H; R1R2 = o-C6H4CH2CH2; R1 = Ph, R2 = MeO), 87% pyrrolidine II, or 76-82% R1COCHR2CH2CH:NNMe2 [R1 = Et, R2 = Me; R1R2 = (CH2)4] or reduced with Na2S2O4 to 21-48% pyrroles III (R1 = H, R2 = Ph; R1 = 4-MeC6H4, R2 = H; R1 = Ph, R2 = MeO). NaBH4 redn. of R1COCH:CHCH:NNR3Me (R1 = 4-MeC6H4, R3 = Ph, Me; R1 = 4-MeOC6H4, R3 = Me) gave R1CH(OH)CH:CHCH:NNR3Me, which cyclized with acid to give aminopyrroles IV. .
