Polyamine additives in alkaline zinc electroplating
Polyamine additives in alkaline zinc electroplating. Rushmere, John Derek (du Pont de Nemours, E. I., and Co., USA). U.S. US 4046648 6 Sep 1977, 5 pp. (English). (United States of America). CODEN: USXXAM. CLASS: IC: C25D003-22. NCL: 204055000R. APPLICATION: US 75-617539 29 Sep 1975. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 72 (Electrochemistry) In the title electroplating from baths contg. small amts. of cyanide or cyanide-free baths, the addn. of polyamines as brighteners, formed by condensing an alkanolamine with an epihalohydrin and then reacting the condensation product with an amine, are discussed. Thus, an alk. noncyanide Zn electroplating bath was prepd. contg. Zn 7.5 and NaOH 90 g/L giving a deposit which was black, porous and nonadhering. The addn. of diethanolamine-(dimethylamino)propylamine-epichlorohydrin copolymer [62739-28-0] (1 g/L) to the bath at 2 A for 5 min in a 267 mL Hull cell test at 25.degree. gave a smooth semibright Zn electroplate on steel over a c.d. range 20-1200 A/m2. The addn. of 1-benzylpyridinium-3-carboxylate [15990-43-9] 1 and Rochelle salt [304-59-6] 7.5 g/L as addnl. brighteners to the bath and the Hull cell test repeated gave a bright Zn plate over the c.d. range 0-1200 A/m2.
