The 1,5-diiodopentane [628-77-3]/1,6-diiodohexane [629-09-4] ratio obtained by 2-step homologation of 1,4-diiodobutane [628-21-7] in the presence of the polymer showed that extensive interaction of polymer-bound functional groups occurred. In contrast, when a dichlorosulfonium deriv. of the thioanisole was used in the oxidn. of 1,7-heptanediol [629-30-1], there was significant site isolation and while the overall conversion to products was similar, the selectivities were reversed. Polymer chain interaction was controlled by decreasing the reaction temps. and concns. of the polymer-bound functional groups. .
