Flame-retardant high-impact p-methylstyrene compositions
Flame-retardant high-impact p-methylstyrene compositions. Trivedi, Viren P. (Mobil Oil Corp. , USA). U.S. US 4459381 A 10 Jul 1984, 7 pp. (English). (United States of America). CODEN: USXXAM. CLASS: IC: C08K005-52; C08K005-53. NCL: 524130000. APPLICATION: US 82-441338 15 Nov 1982. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 37 (Plastics Manufacture and Processing) A flame retardant nonfoamed article is provided comprising a polymer compn. prepd. from at least 20% of a mixt. contg. o-methylstyrene 0-0.1, m-methylstyrene 0.15, p-methylstyrene 85% (at least), and 0-80% of another ethylenically unsatd. monomer, the compn. contg. an org. P compd. or its halogenated deriv. Thus, test specimens contg. 100 parts butadiene-m-methylstyrene-o-methylstyrene-p-methylstyrene copolymer [92417-12-4] and 5.83 parts bis(2-chloroethyl)-2-chloroethanephosphonate [6294-34-4] had UL 94 vertical flame ratings V-2 for both 1/8 in. and 1/16 in. thick specimens.
Sulfonation of styrene-divinylbenzene copolymers
Sulfonation of styrene-divinylbenzene copolymers. Bachmann, Reinhard; Heinicke, Helmut; Haeder, Heinrich; Steinke, Walter; Kochmann, Werner (VEB Chemiekombinat Bitterfeld, E. Ger.). Ger. (East) DD 128182 2 Nov 1977, 6 pp. (German). (German Democratic Republic). CODEN: GEXXA8. CLASS: IC: C08F008-36. APPLICATION: DD 76-195626 5 Nov 1976. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 37 (Plastics Fabrication and Uses) Spheres (0.5-1.5 mm) of 8:92 divinylbenzene-styrene copolymer (I) are swollen in dichloroethane (II) [1300-21-6] contg. 0.1-25% (based on solvent) RR12P(O) (R = ClCH2CH2, CH:CH, OH; R1 = ClCH2CH2O, CH:CHO, OH) and sulfonated with H2SO4 to give >96% intact spheres which are not readily degraded during use as ion exchangers. Thus, I (particle size 0.5-1.5 mm) 100 g was swollen with a mixt. of 4 g II and 8 g O,O-bis(2-chloroethyl) 2-chloroethanephosphonate [6294-34-4], and the swollen I was sulfonated with 800 g H2SO4 at 100°, washed, and neutralized to give 96% whole spheres which showed 91% nondegraded spheres after 100 regeneration cycles.
