The results from adsorption isotherm, high-temp. dehydroxylation, and IR spectra studies showed that adsorption of a monomol. layer of fatty acids occurs and that the no. of mols. adsorbed corresponds to the no. of isolated, non-H-bonded silanol groups. The binding is probably by H bonding of the CO2H groups to silanol groups.
