- Prophylactic and therapeutic use of phenobarbitone in the management of neonatal jaundice. Misra, P. K.; Bajpai, P. C.; Agrawal, S. S.; Upadhyay, V. K. (Dep. Pediatr., King George's Med. Coll., Lucknow, India). Indian J. Med. Res., 65(3), 409-15 (English) 1977. CODEN: IJMRAQ. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacodynamics) A prospective study was conducted to evaluate the role of phenobarbitone (I) [50-06-6] in the prevention and treatment of neonatal jaundice. I decreased plasma bilirubin [635-65-4] levels during prophylactic use in Coomb's neg. babies. I did not have a significant role in the treatment of established jaundice in normal or low birth wt. newborns. I was given orally in 3 divided doses of 6 mg/kg/day to normal wt. newborns and 5 mg/kg/day to low birth wt. newborns. No serious side effects were obsd.

- Preliminary results of studies of the health status of workers exposed to vinyl chloride (VC). Wedrychowicz, Adam; Dura, K.; Garlinska, J.; Pabian, J.; Popiela, T.; Stachura, J.; Szybinski, Z. (Krakow, Pol.). Przegl. Lek., 33(11), 936-41 (Polish) 1976. CODEN: PRLKAV. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 59 (Air Pollution and Industrial Hygiene) Section cross-reference(s): 35 Detn. of alk. phosphatase (I) [9001-78-9], alanine aminotransferase [9000-86-6], and cholinesterase [9001-08-5] activities in workers exposed to vinyl chloride (II) [75-01-4] is very important. Dilation of the liver, abnormalities in liver function, higher I activity, and lower prothrombin [9001-26-7] activity are more frequent in workers exposed to higher I concns. Slight but reproducible deviations were obsd. in liver enzyme activities and bilirubin [635-65-4] levels. Morphol. changes in the liver were obsd. at all II concns. No cases of haemangiosarcoma were diagnosed.
