Direct Green 26 [6388-26-7], in a cellophane film, the particle size at high concns. was of the same order as that found for other dyes of the same type by Weissbein and Coven using electron microscopy. The aggregation no. increased rapidly with an increase in dye concn. in the film to a max. of .apprx.0.0100 at shade depths >2% pure dye/film wt.

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 39 (Textiles) Cotton fabrics exposed to low-temp., low-pressure Ar plasma generated by a radiofrequency elec. field of 13.56 MHz were readily wetted by water and aq. solns. of Chloratine Fast Green BLL [6388-26-7] and Diphenyl Fast 5BL Supra I Red [2610-11-9], high- and low-mol. wt. dyes, resp. Although the rate of wetting of Ar-activated cotton was twice as fast as that of untreated fabric, the total water-holding capacity was not affected by Ar activation. The rate of drying was also faster after plasma treatment. Spectral changes obsd. by x-ray photoelectron-emission spectroscopy and ir spectroscopy revealed surface oxidn. of the cotton and ESR showed the presence of free radicals. Gross topographical changes of the cotton surface were not evident even when viewed under the scanning electron microscope. .
