DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 2 (Mammalian Hormones) The opiate agonists morphine sulfate [64-31-3], a m-agonist, and [D-ala2,D-leu5]-enkephalin (DADLE) [63631-40-3], a semisynthetic d-agonist, were administered into several central nervous system sites in rats. There was a dose-related, naloxone-reversible redn. of water intake following morphine injections into the lateral hypothalamus and preoptic area. In addn., injections of DADLE also attenuated drinking when injected into these 2 sites, but not following ventral tegmental area or zona incerta administration. Endogenous opioid peptides may be involved in the regulation of drinking behavior.

The collection vol. of a soln. contg. 200 mg/3 mL I and II was not different from that of a soln. contg. the same I concn., but without II. Thus, clinicians treating patients with continuous intraspinal infusion of I sulfate via an implantable Infusaid pump should be aware that inadequate pain response to increasing drug concns. may result from redns. in pump flow rate.
