Drinking behavior is modulated by CNS administration of opioids in the rat
Drinking behavior is modulated by CNS administration of opioids in the rat. Czech, Donald A.; Blake, Michael J.; Stein, Elliot A. (Dep. Psychol., Marquette Univ., Milwaukee, WI 53233, USA). Appetite (London), 5(1), 15-24 (English) 1984. CODEN: APPTD4. ISSN: 0195-6663. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 2 (Mammalian Hormones) The opiate agonists morphine sulfate [64-31-3], a m-agonist, and [D-ala2,D-leu5]-enkephalin (DADLE) [63631-40-3], a semisynthetic d-agonist, were administered into several central nervous system sites in rats. There was a dose-related, naloxone-reversible redn. of water intake following morphine injections into the lateral hypothalamus and preoptic area. In addn., injections of DADLE also attenuated drinking when injected into these 2 sites, but not following ventral tegmental area or zona incerta administration. Endogenous opioid peptides may be involved in the regulation of drinking behavior.
Effect of morphine sulfate concentration on flow rate in an implantable reservoir pump
Effect of morphine sulfate concentration on flow rate in an implantable reservoir pump. Rippe, Edward S.; Kresel, James J.; Coombs, Dennis W.; Mroz, William T.; Smith, Clayton R. (Pharm. Serv., Mary Hitchcock Mem. Hosp., Hanover, NH, USA). Am. J. Hosp. Pharm., 41(3), 496-500 (English) 1984. CODEN: AJHPA9. ISSN: 0002-9289. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 63 (Pharmaceuticals) The effect of morphine sulfate (I sulfate) [64-31-3] alone and in combination with bupivacaine-HCl (II) [18010-40-7] in an implantable pump, Infusaid 400 reservoir pump, on the flow rate was investigated. Collection vols. and calcd. daily flow rates decreased with increasing I concns. and soln. osmolalities. A pos. correlation was obsd. between the soln. osmolality and assumed drug concn. The collection vol. of a soln. contg. 200 mg/3 mL I and II was not different from that of a soln. contg. the same I concn., but without II. Thus, clinicians treating patients with continuous intraspinal infusion of I sulfate via an implantable Infusaid pump should be aware that inadequate pain response to increasing drug concns. may result from redns. in pump flow rate.
