DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 62 (Essential Oils and Cosmetics) Brilliant blue R 28032 (I) [6505-30-2] and (1,5-bis(4-methyl-2-sulfophenylamino)anthraquinone (II) [6408-63-5] are used from 1:9 to 9:1 ratio for hair bleaching in alk. hair prepns. contg. a mixt. of H2O2 and persulfates. For example, a cream comprised cetylstearyl alc. 11.0, lauryl sulfate 12.0, (NH4)2SO4 1.0, I 0.06, II 0.03, conc. NH3 14.0, perfume 1.0, and H2O 60.7 parts. A bleaching mixt. was prepd. from 50 g of this cream by mixing with 50 g 6% H2O2 soln. and 14 g ammonium persulfate. The cream was applied to hair ranging from dark blond to black and left on the hair for 30 min. Then the hair was washed with H2O and dried. The resulting color was platinum blond free of red or yellow shades.

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 4 (Toxicology) Anthraquinone violet (I) [6408-63-5] (1.2 or 5.0 g/kg) administered orally to rats once increased the degree of ploidy in the liver cells at 1 and 24 h but had no effect at 6 and 72 h. At 1, 6, and 24 h postingestion the pigment increased the functional activity of cells in the fasciculata zone of the adrenal cortex. Sunflower oil (5 mL) similarly ingested increased the replicative activity of the liver cells at 1 and 24 h while inhibiting the functional capacity of the adrenocortical fascicular zone at 1, 6, 24, and 72 h. The response of the liver cells to I is apparently dependent on the adrenal functional activity.
