- Binding of benzo[a]pyrene-semiquinone radicals with DNA and polynucleotides
- Binding of benzo[a]pyrene-semiquinone radicals with DNA and polynucleotides. Kodama, Masahiko; Ioki, Yoshikazu; Nagata, Chikayoshi (Biophys. Div., Natl. Cancer Cent. Res. Inst., Tokyo, Japan). Gann, 68(2), 253-4 (English) 1977. CODEN: GANNA2. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 4 (Toxicology) Results from EPR spectroscopy studies of the binding between several benzo[a]pyrene semiquinone anion radicals and DNA indicated that the 3,6-semiquinone radical [64133-78-4] covalently bound to DNA to the greatest extent, the 1,6-semiquinone radical [64133-79-5] bound 50% as much as the former radical, and no finding occurred for the 6,12-semiquinone radical [64133-80-8]. Bindings expts. of the radicals with polynucleotides detd. that the quanine residue was the site of binding. Linewidth and g-valve data of the bound complexes of the radicals and poly G indicated that the semiquinone radicals were the active species in binding to the base.
