DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 64 (Pharmaceutical Analysis) Paracetamol [103-90-2] undergoes oxidn. with 2-iodylbenzoate [64297-64-9] in acid medium, producing an orange-yellow color which attains max. intensity within 1 min and absorbs maximally at 444 nm. An excess of the reagent is added to paracetamol and the color measured spectrophotometrically or by titrating the test soln. photometrically with standardized 2-iodylbenzoate. The Sandell sensitivity is 0.232 mg/cm2 of paracetamol and the method is suitable for routine anal. and unaffected by the presence of salicylamide, oxyphenbutazone, analgin, and a no. of other excipients.
