No. 12120 [2425-85-6], 26100 [85-86-9], 12085 [2814-77-9], 12075 [3468-63-1], 12315 [6448-95-9], 26105 [85-83-6], 12140 [3118-97-6], 12100 [2646-17-5], 11680 [2512-29-0], 11380 [85-84-7], 11390 [131-79-3], and 47000 [8003-22-3]) were sepd. on a LiChrosorb SI 100 column by an isocratic elution technique. The eluent was monitored by a wavelength tunable detector (420-500 nm). Suitable solvent systems were Et2O-n-hexane for the sepn. of No. 12140 and 12100, Me2CO-n-hexane for the sepn. of No. 12075 and 12315, and CHCl3-n-hexane for other 8 dyes. The plots of peak height vs. amount of tar dyes were linear with the injection volume of 5 mL or less without reducing the column efficiency. The recoveries from wax base of lipsticks were in the range 91.9-97.0%.
