These low histamine values were restored to control levels when L-histidine-HCl [645-35-2] was administered daily along with I treatment. Chronic treatment with L-histidine prevented the midbrain and cerebrocortical histamine depletion in I-withdrawn rats, whereas in the hypothalamus the histamine level remained significantly decreased. Thus histamine may play a role in I dependence and withdrawal.
