- Investigations on the disposition of oral doses of some water-insoluble pigments. El Dareer, Salah M.; Tillery, Kathleen F.; Hill, Donald L. (South. Res. Inst., Birmingham, AL 35255-5305, USA). Bull. Environ. Contam. Toxicol., 32(2), 171-4 (English) 1984. CODEN: BECTA6. ISSN: 0007-4861. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 4 (Toxicology) At 1 and 4 h after 7-8-wk-old rats were dosed by oral gavage with C.I. Pigment Red 3 (Red 3)(I) [2425-85-6] (11.8 mg/kg), C.I. Pigment Red 23 (Red 23) [6471-49-4] (5.2 mg/kg), and C.I. Pigment Yellow 74 (Yellow 74) [6358-31-2] (12.6 mg/kg), most of the administered material was present in the gut contents and none was in the feces. At 24 and 48 h, however, most was in the feces. Only those tissues directly in contact with the compds. contained detectable amts.; none was found in samples of plasma, whole blood, liver, kidneys, or lungs, even after the administration of doses 10 times larger. There are some commonly used reagents with their cas registry numbers 2425-85-6 and 6358-31-2 in this article. Small amts. (4%) of the compds. were occasionally detected in 24- and 48-h urine samples. Recoveries of the pigments were nearly complete, except that at 24 and 48 h after dosing, the amt. of Red 3 recovered was clearly lower than the amt. administered. Red 23 and Yellow 74 were apparently not altered in the gastrointestinal tract of rats. .
- Compositions for an initially erasable ink for a ball point writing instrument
- Compositions for an initially erasable ink for a ball point writing instrument. Muller, Frank A. (Scripto, Inc., USA). U.S. US 4407985 A 4 Oct 1983, 6 pp. (English). (United States of America). CODEN: USXXAM. NCL: 523161000. APPLICATION: US 82-374938 5 May 1982. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 42 (Coatings, Inks, and Related Products) Section cross-reference(s): 39 A ball-point pen ink initially erasable from a paper-like material by ordinary pencil erasers comprises polar elastomers such as acrylonitre-butadiene and ethylene-vinyl acetate rubbers, pigment, and a solvent. The solvent consists of a volatile component with b.p. <180° and a non-volatile component, which includes a pigment vehicle with b.p. >300° and a plasticizer with viscosity ~2 cP and b.p. range 180-300°, and is present in amt. sufficient to impart a final ink viscosity of ~1.5 ′ 106 cP. The ink is prepd. by admixing 14-25% polar elastomer with 39-44% volatile component while stirring without pre-mastication of the former, followed by adding a colorant having pigment particle size <5 m and the rest of components to a gel-like base. Thus, red ink was formulated contg. Hycar 1052 (polar elastomer) 25, Red 2B [6471-49-4] (colorant) 18, dioctyl phthalate [117-81-7] (pigment vehicle) 18, EtCOMe [78-93-3] (volatile solvent 27, and Kodaflex TX1B [6846-50-0] (plasticizer) 12%.
