Incubation of bovine platelets with I (5 .times. 10-4M) in vitro raised their cyclic AMP [60-92-4] concn. by 25.6%. Phosphorylation of platelet membrane proteins by ATP-.gamma.-32P was catalyzed by cyclic AMP. I may inhibit platelet aggregation by inhibiting membrane-bound II and raising the cyclic AMP level; phosphorylation of membrane proteins catalyzed by cyclic AMP then increases the neg. charge on the membrane and consequently inhibits aggregation.
