- Protective effect of a mixture of radioprotective substances (AET and mexamine) on the hemopoietic stem cells of mice
- Protective effect of a mixture of radioprotective substances (AET and mexamine) on the hemopoietic stem cells of mice. Vacek, A.; Rotkovska, D.; Sikulova, J.; Dikovenko, E. A.; Barkaja, V. S. (Inst. Biophys., Czech. Acad. Sci., Brno, Czech.). Strahlentherapie, 154(6), 424-9 (English) 1978. CODEN: STRAAA. ISSN: 0039-2073. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacodynamics) Section cross-reference(s): 8 AET (2-aminoethylisothiouronium bromide-HBr) [56-10-0] (150 mg/kg, i.p.) and mexamine (I) [66-83-1] (25 mg/kg, s.c.), injected consecutively, had a protective effect for 5 h on the hemopoietic stem cells and on the survival of mice irradiated with a LD of x-rays. The post-irradn. decrease in the wt. of the small intestine was smaller in treated animals than in controls. After administration of AET and I, muscle O tension decreased to 10% of the initial value; but the radioprotective effect lasted longer than the tissue hypoxia. I may induced AET transport to radiosensitive tissues.
- Radioprotectant effect of AET and mexamine on dehydrogenases of the pentose phosphate cycle
- Radioprotectant effect of AET and mexamine on dehydrogenases of the pentose phosphate cycle. Gorelik, Yu. Ya.; Rusanov, A. M.; Krutovskikh, G. N.; Gornaeva, G. F. (Cent. Res. Inst. Roentgenol. Radiol., Leningrad, USSR). Radiobiologiya, 17(6), 897-900 (Russian) 1977. CODEN: RADOA8. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacodynamics) Section cross-reference(s): 8 Radiation induced inhibition of pentose phosphate cycle dehydrogenases in erythrocytes was prevented by mexamine [66-83-1] (20 and 50 mg/kg, i.p.) in guinea pigs and rats and by S,b-aminoethylisothiuronium-HBr [56-10-0] (150 mg/kg, i.p.) in guinea pigs. When the animals were protected with mexamine or b-aminoethylisothiuronium-HBr, enzyme activity increased by 13.9 and 18.6%, resp., on the 4th day after irradn. In mexamine protected rats pentose phosphate cycle dehydrogenase activity increased by 65%, compared with unprotected animals, on the 8th day after exposure of 800 R. Glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase [9001-40-5] activity in the bone marrow of rats on the 4th and 6th days after irradn. with 600 R was twice as high in treated rats as in controls.
