DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacology) Section cross-reference(s): 11, 31 An aq. ext. of bark of C. brasiliense exerts a pos. inotropic action on the isolated and perfused rat heart. This activity is due to quaternary alkaloids. Four quaternary alkaloids were isolated and tested in vivo and in vitro: magnoflorine chloride [6681-18-1], methylisocorypalmine chloride [96442-66-9] (a new alkaloid), tembetarine chloride [96360-06-4], and colletine chloride [15500-51-3]. The last 3 alkaloids seem to be responsible for the inotropic activity.
