CS alone was more effective in bone regeneration than vitamin D3 alone (compared with unsupplemented controls). The bone regenerates of CS- or CS + vitamin D-supplemented rabbits contained higher levels of dry matter and Ca than unsupplemented controls. The levels of citric acid [77-92-9] in the regenerated bone of supplemented rabbits were markedly higher than in controls. Thirty days after trauma, complete ossification of the radius was obsd. in CS-, CS + vitamin D3- and vitamin D3-supplemented animals whereas in controls the crack between bone fragments had not yet healed. In 2-mo.-old rabbits, the bone regeneration process was faster than that in 6-mo-old rabbits studied in previous expts. .
