DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacology) Section cross-reference(s): 10 3-Acetyl-4'-isovaleryltylosin (I) [63409-12-1], which was shown earlier to have activity better than tylosin against 7 field isolates of Treponema hyodysenteriae (a causative organism of swine dysentery), was further tested against 14 addnl. field isolates of the organism. Also the prophylactic activity of I in protecting swines from T. hyodysenteriae infection was examd. and the results compared with those obtained with tylosin [1401-69-0] and carbadox [6804-07-5]. A model using principal and sentinel pigs was used in later trials, so that the effect on carrier-state development and recurrence of diseases in the post-treatment period could be evaluated. Using tylosin-sensitive and -insensitive strains of T. hyodysenteriae, it was shown that I (55 mg/kg of feed, min. inhibiting concn. range of 0.25-16 mg/mL) effectively prevented swine dysentery. .

Bakteriol., Parasitenkd., Infektionskr. Hyg., Abt. 2, 131(8), 760-6 (French) 1976. CODEN: ZBPIA9. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacodynamics) In mice infected with Giardia muris and Trichomonas muris, metronidazole (I) [443-48-1] (15-30 mg/kg/day) and mecadox [6804-07-5] (5-25 mg/kg/day) were effective in treating the flagellosis. The moderate doses, 15-25 and 5-10 mg/kg/day of I and mecadox, resp., favorably affected wt. gain. The max. doses decreased wt. gain.
