DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 40 (Textiles) Na cellulosates of cotton fabric were prepd. by reaction between preswollen fabric and NaOMe [124-41-4] in MeOH, NaOEt [141-52-6] in EtOH, NaOBu [2372-45-4] in BuOH, and NaOPr [6819-41-6] in PrOH; the degree of metalation decreased in the order NaOPr > NaOBu > NaOEt > NaOMe. The degree of metalation in the case of NaOMe was markedly increased by addn. of Me2SO [67-68-5] to the system as a cosolvent. Demetalation of the Na metalated fabric by various alcs. at 30° was significantly affected by the acidity, electron donor power, Taft polar substituent const., and dielec. const. of the alc. used. BuOH, iso-BuOH, and iso-PrOH had practically no effect, whereas MeOH, EtOH, and also H2O caused rapid demetalation. No significant change in breaking strength, elongation to rupture, and crease recovery was obsd. when untreated fabric was compared with fabric regenerated from its Na cellulosate form.

(m = 0.019-1.63 mol/kg) were measured by flow calorimetry at 298.15 K. The value of 145.6 ± 3 J/K.mol is suggested as the best std.-state partial molar heat capacity value for this compd.
