DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 5 (Agrochemical Bioregulators) Deltamethrin [52918-63-5], fenvalerate [51630-58-1], and cyfluthrin [68359-37-5], were assayed against 2nd-instar nymphs of the grasshopper M. sanguinipes at 5 dosages and at 5 post-treatment temps. ranging from 15.6 to 37.8°. All 3 showed a neg. temp. coeff. of toxicity but there was considerable variation in the pattern of response. Deltamethrin was the most effective and cyfluthrin the least effective, both in terms of the amt. of active ingredient required for 90% mortality and in having the lowest neg. coeff., resp. The extent of the neg. temp. coeff. of toxicity was much more pronounced at the LD90 than the LD50. Apparent mortality was recorded at 24, 48, and 72 h post-treatment and with each of the pyrethroids, recovery of some hoppers took place after 24 h. This phenomenon of delayed recovery was greatest at the lower temps.

Cyfluthrin plus piperonyl butoxide [51-03-6] (1:5 ratio) was highly efficient for cereal protection, during 12 mo, at the dose of 2:10 ppm. Cyfluthrin by itself showed a significant redn. of effectiveness. Fenitrothion was very effective and superior to malathion.
