- Control of a line of E. tenella, partly resistant to monensin, by including toltrazuril discontinuously in the drinking water of chickens. Chapman, H. D. (Houghton Poult. Res. Stn., Huntingdon/Cambridgeshire PE17 2DA, UK). J. Comp. Pathol., 97(1), 21-7 (English) 1987. CODEN: JCVPAR. ISSN: 0021-9975. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacology) Discontinuous mediation with toltrazuril [69004-03-1], given in the drinking water at a concn. of 50 ppm, was effective in controlling infection resulting from repeated inoculation of oocysts of a line of Eimeria tenella partly resistant to monensin [17090-79-8]. Treatment was very effective when the drug was given for periods of 3 days, on 2 or 3 occasions at weekly intervals. Monensin, at a concn. 69004-03-1 and 17090-79-8 which are cas registry numbers of substances are two of reagents here. of 120 ppm, given continuously in the feed was only partially effective. Following treatment with toltrazuril, birds inoculated with high doses of oocysts were immune to subsequent challenge. Thus, discontinuous medication with toltrazuril in the drinking water might provide an alternative to the current practice of incorporating drugs continuously in the feed. .

Multidisciplinarity for Parasites, Vectors and Parasitic Diseases, Proceedings of the European Multicolloquium of Parasitology, 9th, Valencia, Spain, July 18-23, 2004, Volume 2, 413-416. Edited by: Mas-Coma, Santiago. Monduzzi Editore: Bologna, Italy. ISBN: 88-7587-115-9(English) 2004. CODEN: 69IQXC. DOCUMENT TYPE: Conference CA Section: 1 (Pharmacology) The preventive and curative efficacies of imidocarb (20 and 40 mg/kg) and toltrazuril (20, 40 and 60 mg/kg) against C. parvum were evaluated in a neonatal Balb/c mouse model. Preventive treatment was started within 1 h before inoculation and days 1 and 2 pi whereas curative treatment was administered at days 4,5 and 6 pi. Drug efficacies were detd. by comparing mean nos. of oocysts in treated vs. control mice at necropsy examn. on day 7 pi. Imidocarb yielded excellent activity at a dose of 20 mg/kg in curative assays (redn. of oocyst output of 85.8%) and at 40 mg/kg in both preventive and curative assays (redn. of 88.6 % and 88% resp.). Treatment with toltrazuril resulted in a dose-dependent redn. of oocyst output ranging between 50.8% and 74.4% (preventive assays) and between 43.4% and 58% (curative assays). .
