(I), a prostaglandin synthon, was prepd. 692-86-4 and 34546-57-1 which are cas registry numbers of chemicals are mentioned. by treating CH2:CH(CH2)8CO2Et with Na2WO4, aq. H3PO4, 35%' H2O2, and Aliquat 336 in CH2Cl2 to give 69% epoxide II, which was treated with CO2(CO)8 and K2CO3 in EtOH under CO to give 60% EtO2CCH2CH(OH)(CH2)8 CO2Et. Treating the latter compd. with polyphosphoric acid at 100°, followed by esterification with HCl in MeOH gave 80% I along with 20% [)methoxycarbonyl)pentyl]cyclohexenone III. .
