DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 17 (Food and Feed Chemistry) White clover plus Dactylis, and alfalfa silage were prepd. with addn. of formic acid [64-18-6], NH4 tetraformate [70179-79-2], FNE (Ca formate-Na nitrite-hexamethylenetetramine mixt.) [92205-98-6], paraformaldehyde [30525-89-4], Lactobacillus plantarum, or Streptococcus faecium. After 120 days of ensiling, dry matter, total and NH3-nitrogen, pH, EtOH, and volatile acids, as well as the Flieg and Vanbelle scores, were detd. High silage quality was obtained from white clover plus Dactylis with all additives, but for alfalfa only with paraformaldehyde.
