DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 5 (Agrochemicals) In high concns. the degrdn. of 1-14C-labeled diisoprpylnaphthalene (I) [38640-62-9] by activated sludge to 14CO2 was less than at low concns. Thus, after 4 wk at 25°, only 20-40% of 10 ppm I-14C was degraded to 14CO2 whereas at 0.4 ppm about 80% was degraded. The metabolites of I were detd. in a sep. expt. with nonradioactive I incubated with activated sludge for 3 wk at 25°. Thin-layer chromatog., m.p., NMR, gas chromatog.-mass spectroscopy were used to identify the metabolites: 3-isopropylsalicylic acid [7053-88-5], 4-isopropylsalicylic acid [20154-41-0] and 2-(6-isopropyl-b-naphthyl)propionic acid [67739-87-1]. A speculative microbial oxidn. pathway of I was given.
